Hugo Passarello Luna is a photographer and a multimedia journalist. His "Unexpected Photo Essay on Cortazar, his readers and Paris" was exhibited in several locations in Paris and was mentioned by media all over Latin America. The story is a series of portraits taken in Paris of friends and readers of Argentine writer, Jorge Cortazar. The project seeks to create a hopscotch of images that weaves together the personal stories of participants with Cortazar and Paris. Each of the participants had to choose a passage of the book Hopscotch that mentions a place in Paris. Passarello then photographed them in the chosen site and asked them to briefly explain why they preferred it over others. He transforms the traditional photo essay into a participative and playful project, where the people portrayed and the audience get to write and rewrite the story by playing around with the images.

Jay Bartlett is a Los Angeles-based commercial photographer who has been shooting for over 10 years. A grass-roots photographer who in his early stages of his career pounded the pavement by cold calling and doing door to door advertising for new prospective clients. He started out during his last year of his enlistment in the U.S. Airforce taking battlefield pictures while on active duty in Desert Shield. Honorably discharged, he then worked for a medical company honing his business skills for several years before he decided to go and launch his commercial photography business 5 years ago. Damon Casarez is an emerging documentary and portrait photographer based in Los Angeles county. His recent project, "Boomerang Kids," that was pitched to the New York Times Magazine, has brought up a lot of conversation about the factors recent college graduates face as soon as they leave school. The cinematic environmental portraits put a face to the stories of thousands of recent college grads who are buried in student loan debt and cannot support themselves, something he went through himself after leaving school. His personal projects are often Damon graduated from Art Center College of Design in August of 2012, where he had a very rigorous and technical photography education, which he applied to his conceptual projects about his suburban upbringing. Most of his education in commercial photography would be learned while interning for a photo agency and under a photo editor, where he was taught about the business and marketing side of photography as well as seeing the inner workings of a magazine. Zun Lee a self-taught photographer who picked up a camera in 2009. He has been an artist and storyteller since he was little but then life got in the way. Making pictures is his way of reclaiming his artistic side. He is the quintessential nomad. He was born and raised in Germany, has lived in various parts of the USA and is currently based in Toronto, Canada. That sense of wanderlust, of being uprooted, has never left him. He doesn't anchor his concept of “home” to a familiar physical space – home is a state of mind I enter wherever he's inspired to create the work he wants, or when he's surrounded by people he cares about. As a clinician, he is trained to work with people at their most vulnerable who grant him permission to invade their privacy. As a result, he has always had an intense interest in the dynamics of trust and control when it comes to that interaction. At best, it can reveal a unique connection, a kind of truth that would otherwise not be foregrounded. When a human being connects with another and - even if for a split second - relinquishes a certain level of control, it is fascinating that complete strangers can share an alternate truth about themselves that was hidden not only to others, but perhaps even to themselves. It is in these moments that individual emotion transcends the personal realm and gains universally understood context. As a photographer, these are the moments he is after. Stories of connection that reveal themselves in a single glance or over a period of years. Julia Gunther was born in Berlin, Germany, and studied Film & Video at the University of the Arts in London, UK. After 7 years of working on feature films, commercials and music videos in Berlin, London, Amsterdam and Cape Town, she decided to shift gears and concentrate solely on photography. Her body of work includes Proud Women of Africa which is a collection of short visual stories that portrays the daily lives of remarkable women living or working in Africa. Remarkable because they fought, survived, overcame or simply ignored the obstacles that life has thrown at them. Remarkable because they never gave up. All of the women in her pictures have suffered in some way: they’ve been ostracized by society, are desperately poor, or have experienced terrible injustice. But they are also all still proud. Proud of who they are, of their lives and the love they represent. http://www.juliagunther.com/ http://www.pieterhugo.com/ www.thecandidframe.com info@thecandidframe.com

John Keatley has swapped photography stories with Annie Leibovitz, taken geography lessons from Sarah Palin, and learned to craft the perfect cocktail with the best bartender in the country. He’ll climb a tree, fight off a snow monster, or bury someone in kitty litter; all in the name of getting the perfect shot, and that’s just before breakfast. John is known for putting even the most camera-shy individual completely at ease in front of the lens. His quick sense of humor and down-to-earth outlook are what allow him to connect with his subjects and create dramatic images. His celebrity portraits and advertising campaigns are balanced with his wide range of personal projects as well as his work on international awareness campaigns, such as a recent trip to Liberia to work on a clean water initiative. John’s work is regularly recognized for awards, including American Photography, the PDN, and Communication Arts Photography Annuals. Dennis Manarchy was raised in Rockford, Illinois. He grew a love for photography at an early age and won a scholarship to Rochester Institute of Technology. Upon graduation he was fortunate to serve an apprenticeship for legendary photographer, Irving Penn. It was a highly disciplined and uncompromising environment. Penn became simultaneously a mentor due to his amazing talent and meticulous nature, and a nemesis because it took years for Dennis to break from his influence and develop his own style. Dennis was drafted in the army in 1968. After serving as Lieutenant in the Vietnam War, he returned home disillusioned. He met a Lumbee Indian chief in a North Caroline bookstore, and after sharing his story he was invited to move in with the Tribe. Dennis spent 6 months readjusting while immersing himself in their daily life. It was a pivotal experience. http://www.manarchy.com/ http://butterfliesandbuffalo.com/dennis-manarchy/ www.thecandidframe.com info@thecandidframe.com

Joel Sartore is a photographer, speaker, author, teacher and a 20-year contributor to National Geographic magazine. His hallmarks are a sense of humor and a Midwestern work ethic. Joe’s assignments have taken him to every continent and to the world’s most beautiful and challenging environments, from the High Arctic to the Antarctic. Simply put, Joel is on a mission to document endangered species and landscapes in order to show a world worth saving. His interest in nature started in childhood, when he learned about the very last passenger pigeon from one of his mother’s Time-Life books. He has since been chased by a wide variety of species including wolves, grizzlies, musk oxen, lions, elephants and polar bears. His first National Geographic assignment introduced him to nature photography, and also allowed him to see human impact on the environment first-hand. In his words, “It is folly to think that we can destroy one species and ecosystem after another and not affect humanity. When we save species, we’re actually saving ourselves.” In addition to his work he has done for National Geographic, Joel has contributed to Audubon Magazine, Geo, Time, Life, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated and numerous book project. Joel and his work have been the subjects of several national broadcasts including National Geographic’s Explorer, The NBC Nightly NEws, NPR’s Weekend Edition and an hour-long PBS documentary, At Close Range. Dawn Bowery is a British photographer residing in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles. She has always had a passion for photography, preferring to document life visually rather than through the written word. Through her travels she developed a love for street photography in far away places like China, Cuba and Morocco where she took an intensive photography course with Creative Escapes. This allowed her the opportunity to develop her skills and gave her the confidence to take her photography to the next level. She was rewarded by having one of her fine art prints from Morocco exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art in their Summer Exhibition 2009 and went on to have several exhibitions in London selling fine art prints to collectors around the world. Before becoming a professional photographer Dawn enjoyed a long and successful career as a visual effects artist for film and television working for Rhythm and Hues Studios in Los Angeles and more recently for Sky TV in London. Her visual effects background clearly influences her photography and is evident in her contemporary color treatment and post production. This combined with her natural empathy for her subject and classic sense of composition result in stunning portraiture that tells a story. In 2010 Dawn decided to make the leap and return to Los Angeles to pursue photography full time. The combination of her love of portrait photography and curiosity about what brought her fellow Brits to the City of Angels resulted in the idea for her upcoming coffee table book "California Dreaming:Real life stories of Brits in LA". The book has been a labour of love for almost three year and features stunning portraits of an eclectic mix of people from all walks of life, some are celebrities, others are everyday people, but all are inspirational of people following their dreams. Those featured include Nigel Lythgoe ( TV exec ), Audley Harrison ( Olympic boxer ), Ioan Gruffudd ( Actor ), Steve Sidelnyk ( Drummer ), Alan Selka ( Butler ) and The Atherton Twins ( Cirque Du Soleil acrobats ). She is currently running an indieGoGo campaign for the book which is due to be released in the spring. http://dawnboweryphotography.com/ http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/california-dreaming-real-life-stories-of-brits-in-la http://britsinlabook.com/ http://brookeshaden.com/gallery/ http://www.missaniela.com/ www.thecandidframe.com info@thecandidframe.com

George Lange’s work as a photographer is known all over the world. He grew up in Pittsburgh and now lives in Boulder, Colorado, though his career has taken him just about everywhere. After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design, he worked for the legendary photographers Duane Michals and Annie Leibovitz before going out on his own. Since then, his work has appeared on movie posters; billboards; in numerous platforms for many major corporations; newspapers, including The New York Times,The Chicago Tribune and USA Weekend; and in almost every major magazine, ranging from O: The Oprah Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, People, ADWEEK, Esquire, Glamour, Parade, and GQ to Self and Sports Illustrated. Lange has photographed everyone from Jim Carrey to Honey Boo Boo; from latex glove factories in Thailand to ice cream production in Columbus, Ohio; from the cast of Seinfeld to Cake Boss; from choreographers to jewelers. Lange is also an accomplished director, working on projects for One Kings Lane, Merrill Lynch and Jeni’s Ice Cream. His work is guided by one simple truth: an unforgettable photograph is not about what the image looks like, but what it feels like. Lange believes that when we do what we love and take pictures from the heart, “all we’re doing is putting love out into the world” - a line heard by all subjects who have been in front of Lange’s camera. http://www.langestudio.com/ http://tedxtalks.ted.com/video/Capturing-the-moment-George-Lan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duane_Michals www.thecandidframe.com info@thecandidframe.com |
